The perfect Cosmo is a thing of beauty. It’s taken me a long time, but I now have developed the recipe that I consider better than any other.
- 1 shot Ronin Blood Orange Syrup
- 1 shot Triple Sec
- 1 shot Vodka
- Cranberry juice
- 1 orange
(This drink is suitable for layering… if you know how to do it).
Cut a piece of the orange (generous piece of peel + some of the fruit flesh) and set aside. Juice the rest of the orange and add to the glass. Add the syrup, triple sec, and vodka. Add the ice and the cranberry juice.
Hold the orange peel up to a flame briefly to release the oils (not enough to turn it black!). Add to the glass.
For me, summer is all about berries. And with the short summers here in Glasgow, I’ve been looking for a way to make it last. This is it. Added to which, this is a great way to use up overripe strawberries.
- 1 part sugar
- 3 parts strawberries (thanks Alec!)
- (optional) 1 part vodka.
Put all the ingredients in a jar and mash up. Put it in the fridge for 2-3 days. Strain and pour into a bottle.
This is gorgeous added to ginger beer with a squeeze of lemon juice.
It’s a gorgeous day in Glasgow and I’ve just come back from my first jog (ever).
I’ve come back parched! So I’ve made an alcohol-free version of one of my favourite cocktails.
I cut up 5 massive strawberries, crushed a handful of ice-cubes, added a splash of Blood Orange Syrup (Ronin 1803), a few sprigs of fresh mint and gave it a good shake. Then I poured the lot in a glass and topped off with some fiery ginger beer.
If I was going to make this with alcohol, I’d add some rum.
